Attention Catholics: Here Comes Newt!

This was unexpected. Newt Gingrich to become Catholic. This appeared in the New York Times in a profile on Newt that I only skimmed.

Newt Again. New York Times March 1, 2009

I have admired Newt and realized that his three marriages make it easy for his political opponents to take shots at him for personal immorality.

Here's is Google search for newt gingrich hypocrisy

The Catholic left is sure to slap him around for his support of the death penalty. The same complaint is made about Rudy.

There's an anti-Catholic spin in any story if you look hard enough

There was a tragic plane crash in Montana on March 22. This is a typical contemporaneous report:

Montana Plane Crash Kills 17: AP

Today, looking for reaction to the Texas school board decision, I found this follow-up to the crash:
A heartless faith

The atheist author is outraged, first mocking the idea that a Catholic cemetery includes a memorial to unborn children in scare quotes, then embedding his own irony in his criticism of this article on Christian Newswire which is a complete inclusion from
Gingi Edmunds blog

If you are not inclined to click on everything, this is the source of PZ Meyer's outrage:

I don't want to turn this tragic event into some creepy spiritual "I told you so" moment, but I think of the time spent outside of Feldkamp's - Pam Feldkamp laughing at the fetal development signs, Bud Feldkamp trying not to make eye contact as he got into his car with a small child in tow - and I think of the haunting words, "Think of your children." I wonder if those words were haunting Feldkamp as well as he stood in the snow among the remains of loved ones, just feet from the 'Tomb of the Unborn'?

I think this is creepy, like a Twilight Zone episode. That crew and passengers did not deserve to die. The unborn children killed in abortion do not deserve to die. Gingi Edmunds should realize that people like PZ Meyers are out there stalking our side and looking for every opportunity to point the accusatory finger at us of hate and hypocrisy. Write carefully and ask yourself, "Can the enemy spin this to their advantage?"

Vince of the Shamwow Commericals as you have never seen him before

I would think that if he had all that money from television, he would be able to afford a better relationship that this.

In our celebrity culture, I wonder if this help Vince Shlomi and Sasha Harris achieve some great fame.

Notre Dame betrays its Catholic Identity

Norte Dame which claims to have a Catholic identity has betrayed it. President Obama voted three times against a bill that would have made it clear that a child born alive in induced labor abortion procedure would have the right to life under Illinois law.

The greatest moral evil in the United States is abortion and it is opposed by the bishops of the Catholic Church and millions of Catholics and therefore by inviting President Obama, Norte Dame brings dishonor upon itself in honoring, as a Catholic university, President Obama.

Five Very Dangerous Words
failure of the free market

This is tough to discuss with someone who believes this -- precisely because one has to confront the defective worldview that makes it possible to utter such a phrase.

Now, I want to concede that if there was a place on earth with free markets, the rule of law, government by consent, individual rights, and generally speaking people who believe in right and wrong -- and if there's an inability there to obtain the necessities of life by ones effort -- I'd want to reexamine the following assertion -- when someone says free markets have failed, then we have an error in defining "free markets" or "failure".

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new passion

Cristiano Ronaldo has a new mania - collecting luxury watches.

The Manchester United winger, makes £120,000 a week and already possesses several luxury watches, including a £70,000 Franck Muller watch.

Now he is considering investing in watches from Rolex, Cartier, Breitling and club sponsor Hublot, according to British newspaper The Sun.

A informant tells the The Sun,
“Ronnie is becoming more mature with his money and, although he loves cars, he now wants items which hold value.

“He has been told how some watches increase in value over time and he has developed a great eye for these things.

“A few of the United lads compete over cars and watches, but Ronnie always seems to be one step ahead.”

New Jersey considers ban on bare-it-all 'Brazilian' wax: AP

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey is drawing the line when it comes to bikini waxing.

The state Cosmetology and Hairstyling Board is moving toward a ban on genital waxing altogether after two women reported being injured.

Both women were hospitalized for infections following so-called "Brazilian" waxes.

The legislative debate taking place now over "Brazilian waxing" a method of removing hair from the genitalia is a opportunity to show the hypocrisy of the stated reasons that are at the foundation of so-called abortion rights. (1) The "health" reason given is two reported infections out of tens of thousands of these procedures. If this standard were applied to surgical abortion, that procedure would be banned on those grounds. (2) What does this say about "choice"? In New Jersey which does not require parental consent, any pregnant child can obtain an abortion. That's advocated on the basis of choice, but an adult woman cannot choose to have hair removed. Is this giving rights to pubic hair that unborn children do not have?

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Not only the feast of my patron saint, but my wedding anniversary.

The Pope's trip to Africa: ignore at your own risk: Catholic World News

Pope Benedict XVI leaves Rome tomorrow, March 17, for a week-long trip to Cameroon and Angola: the 11th foreign voyage of this pontificate, and the first to Africa. Judging by their near-complete silence about the papal trip, the mass media evidently are not expecting much interesting news. They should know better by now.

Africa is the place where traditional religion, atheistic materialism, Islam, and Christianity are in a struggle for souls where the outcome is uncertain. We should pray for the Pope and for the Church in Africa.

MET’s 125th Anniversary Gala fashion

Yves Saint Laurent sponsors the 125th Anniversary Gala benefit.

The French fashion brand sponsored last season’s new production gala event for La Fille du Regiment at the Met.

There were a lot of celebrities in stylish gowns and glamour views.

Held at Lincoln Center’s Metropolitan Opera House, lovely ladies including Claire Danes, Mary Kate Olsen, Diane Kruger, Becki Newton and Ginnifer Goodwin all graced the red carpet.

Mary Kate Olsen wearing a black maxy gown with a silver belt, which matched an Yves Saint Laurent gold clutch.

Actress Claire Danes looked dainty in a silk navy Yves Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2009 halter gown with a draped skirt and a ruck bodice, accessoried with a gold YSL clutch.

Diane Kruger looked lovely and stand out the crowd. Her two-toned electric blue strapless YSL gown with details on the bodice was amazing.

Becki Newton from Ugly Betty was wearing a metal pair of Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2009 heels and a glimmering green sequined YSL Spring 2009 strapless cocktail dress.

Ginnifer Goodwin was in a hot simple maxy strapless YSL print gown.

Ronaldo loves Italian women

Cristiano Ronaldo: I would play in Italy because of the women
Cristiano Ronaldo has accepted there's one element that may influence him to leave Manchester United for Serie A and that is-Italian women."Will I ever play in Italy? Never say never in life," theCristiano ronaldo told Tuttosport. "I do gladly travel there, like I did last summer, because there are the most beautiful and sexiest girls in the world - joking aside I admire your football, you're the world champions."

"I particularly like [Alessandro] Del Piero; he is a unique and extraordinary footballer - a true professional for all the people who love this sport."

Cristiano also brought out that he was just about joining FC Milano before United moved on to sign him from Portugal club Sporting Lisbon in year 2003.

"Yes, I was close to moving to Inter but Arsenal and Juventus were also interested," he affirmed. "Suarez (Inter scout) came to Lisbon but my agent, Jorge Mendes, told me that Ferguson wanted me at all costs."

Observations

  • Excitement over the guilty plea of Bernard Madoff and his immediate remand to prison
  • Looks like the third day of a bear recovery or minor bull market.
  • I left my office exactly three times. On each excursion (11am coffee, library, and lunch) I saw a different set of adult twins. I wonder if there was an event to gather twins together in the financial district.

Sharing my email to Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham

Otherwise reliable conservative senators seem content to nibble at the edges and eat the scraps off the floor as Democrats spend the wealth of the next three decades. You should find plenty of soundbites in CNBC's interview with Hutchison at 8am EDT 3/11 for making this point. We need a simple "no earmarks" message -- the whiny "I had to get my share to support my constituents" is a leadership failure.

FOXNews.com - More Americans Say They Have No Religion

    My focus

In the Northeast, self-identified Catholics made up 36 percent of adults last year, down from 43 percent in 1990.

We Catholics are now reaping what we have sewn:

    • Lack of interest on the part of parents to hand down the faith.
    • A failure of basic instruction in what Catholics believe.
    • Being a "no show" in the culture war.

Now I have some problems with the concept that everyone who doesn't express a religious affiliation is an atheist. So I seem some defects in how this survey was taken.

On the other hand, I think someone who has given serious thought to the existence of God and rejected it at least is giving it the time to think. Perhaps, at the hour of death, an atheist may open up his heart to God. That's a worthy prayer intention for Lent.

How fast can you run Ronaldo?

Cristiano is fast really fast, but apparently he thinks not fast enough. So what can you do;well one thing that you can is to ask the fastest man on face of earth and three-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt for some sprinting lessons.

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to meet up with Usain Bolt, in a wish to become even faster.Independent on Sunday reported that Bolt is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and wish to meet up with him in the summer with a wish to improving his sprinting. The meet come about as Bolt is a big Ronaldo fan of Cristiano. He is collecting signed football shirts, but is missing the one with Cristiano's name.Ronaldo is a big fan of Bolt himself and was all too happy to obligate but made one request of his own. In return, Cristiano would like some advice from Bolt on how to improve his running speed.
Usain Bolt’s manager Ricky Simms stated: “It’s definitely going to happen. We’ll sort something out this summer when Usain comes to Europe.”Cristiano Ronaldo and Usain Bolt will meet in the summertime, while Bolt is in Europe contending on the Grand Prix and Golden League circuit and training for the World Championships in Berlin in August.

ALL's Judie Brown on Sen. Brownback: "I'll never use 'pro-life' to describe him again"
Sen. Brownback congratulates Sebelius, pro-Lifers stunned: lifesitenews.com

Laura Ingraham ripped Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts today for supporting Kathleen Sebelius' nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services. She supports the notorious late-term abortion specialist George Tiller and has been shielding him from scrutiny.

I took some heat for supporting Romney over Brownback because (a) I was willing to accept that Romney had changed his position on life issues, (b) I couldn't support a candidate who wanted defeat in Iraq.

Obama Says Now May Be Good Time to Invest in Stocks: Bloomberg

March 3 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said falling share prices may mean bargains for investors with a “long-term perspective.”

Obama, who is seeking to boost public confidence in his strategy to pull the U.S. out of recession, spoke a day after stock markets tumbled. The Dow Jones Industrial Average yesterday dropped below 7,000 for the first time since 1997. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index closed at the lowest level since October 1996.

The Dow Jones Industrial average on election day was 9625, on the day where President Obama made this announcement the DJIA was 6730, a drop of 30 percent and in round numbers 3000 points.

When does President Obama take responsibility for the economy?

The market is continuously adjusting to and taking into account what the policies are and will be. It is predicting doom at the moment. President Hoover thought that stocks were a bargain after the crash. This one case where President Obama doesn't want to be compared to a prior president.

Michael Steele hopes the Obama agenda succeeds and, by the way, Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer

After Tussle on G.O.P. Title, an Apology to Limbaugh: New York Times

WASHINGTON — The new chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, apologized to Rush Limbaugh on Monday after describing him in a television interview over the weekend as an “entertainer” who made incendiary and sometimes ugly remarks, party officials said.

Mr. Steele called Mr. Limbaugh after the radio host belittled Mr. Steele on his show, questioning his authority and saying the new Republican leader was off “to a shaky start.”

“It’s time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you’re having a tough time pulling off,” Mr. Limbaugh said in a transcript of his remarks posted on his Web site.

“You are head of the R.N.C.,” Mr. Limbaugh said. “You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the R.N.C., and right now they want nothing to do with it.”

What Steele said can't be taken back. "...Rush Limbaugh, the whole thing is entertainment. Yes, it’s incendiary. Yes, it’s ugly."

That quote is going to used by Dems to drive a wedge between the Conservative movement and the Republican party until Steele's term is over or Rush is off the air.

Rather than damaging Rush, it backfired on Steele. He's lost what limited credibility he had with the conservative movement. He's got to have spend time getting some trust back -- so does he want Obama's agenda to succeed? Is he so inarticulate that he can't separate the country, from its government, and from the current administration?

What Steele needs to do as RNC Chairman is end the open primary in states where the party can do so, and, above all, stop New Hampshire and South Carolina from being the first primary states.

My suggestion (actually, I forgot who came up with this...) is to have a lottery between Thanksgiving 2011 and January 1, 2012 and pick the first primary states at random.

Part of the reason why Rush has 20 million listeners is not as he sarcastically suggested his song and dance routines, but his political insights.

Manchester United failed to score in 90 mins of regular time or the 30 minutes of overtime but they show no mercy in the penalty , scoring on all four shots while Spurs dismissed Carling Cup crown after O'Hara and Bentley miss their shootouts.Ronaldo slotted his penalty shoot with ease deleting bad memory of his miss versus Chelsea in the Champions League final.
