Jhoom Barabar Jhoom: Movie Review

Guys this weekend I watched Jhoom Barabar Jhoom starring Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Lara Dutta and Bobby Deol... Although I had got very bad reviews from the media but i wanted to see the movie...

I had basically two reasons to watch the movie... its songs and Amitabh Bachchan... and I would say both were great in the movie... The music of the film is conducted by the award-winning trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy... and what add to the beauty of the music is that the songs are picturised too well... Amitabh Bachchan although has very short but repetitive presence in the movie but he has CLASS...

The story of the film goes like this... At a busy London station, two strangers Rikki Thukral (Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira Khan (Preity Zinta) wait for their respective fiancés... Rikki is the fun-loving boy from Bhatinda whilst Alvira is the princess from Lahore who considers herself to be more British... The two share a table together and to kill the time they talk about how they met their partners to be...

Rikki met his fiancé Anaida Raza (Lara Dutta) at the Hôtel Ritz Paris, the same night that Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Al-Fayed left the hotel and took their last journey together. He is madly in love with Anaida and appropriately says "When two lovers die, another two are born". Alvira on the other hand met her fiancé at Madame Tussauds in London. She was saved by the dashing Steve Singh (Bobby Deol) when the Superman wax model nearly falls on her. The one encounter changed her life and she was smitten by the lawyer by profession.

As Rikki and Alvira talk they begin to enjoy each other's company. There differences and backgrounds do not matter anymore but the two hours talking together creates an attraction between the two... The two exchange numbers and go to meet their partners. However, it turns out their partners do not exist, and that they actually lied to each other about being engaged. Rikki was at the train station to meet his business partner whilst Alvira went to receive her relatives. After they leave the station, it becomes apparent to both that they love each other.

The two get into contact but do not come clean with each, and they decide to meet up at a disco where there is a dance competition. Out of desperation, Rikki hires Laila, a prostitute (played by Lara Dutta) to pose as Anaida and Alvira gets Satvinder, a sweet optician (played by Bobby Deol) to pretend to be Steve. The four meet at the club and take part in the dance competition, whilst throwing insults at each other. Rikki and Laila emerge as the winners but Alvira jealous and hurt storms out in tears.

Satvinder goes to Rikki's and tells him that he has fallen in love with Laila, he also tells him that Alvira is not engaged to him. Rikki realising what has happened goes to Alvira's who is moping in bed and trying to convince her cousin not to marry her. The two meet in the street and declare their love for each other and seal it with a kiss...

At times the movie was great fun... Worthwhile to watch it once guys... Here are few more pics from the movie taken from santabanta... Enjoy guys and please put your comments...
